This article provides an introduction to the new CSS3 standard which is set to take over from CSS2. CSS3 offers a huge variety of new ways to create an impact with your designs, providing easy implementation of some concepts with quite a few important changes.
The implementation of CSS3 is going on in modules. Several of the modules have now been completed and the others are still being worked upon. It is incredibly difficult to predict when all the web browsers will adopt the new features of CSS3.New features will be implemented gradually in different browsers, and it could still be a year or two before every module is widely adopted. In fact, CSS3 patiently sits, all ready to make its debut, waiting for the browsers to provide the red carpet. You see, it is the browsers that need to catch up.
Here is a quick outlook on CSS3 browser Compatibility:
- Firefox (3.0.5… some support)
- Google Chrome (1.0.154.36… some support)
- Internet Explorer (IE6, IE7, IE8…no support)
- Opera (9.6… little support)
- Safari (3.2.1 on Windows… good support)
CSS3 will obviously be completely backwards compatible, so it won’t be necessary to change existing designs to ensure they work. Web browsers will always continue to support CSS2. Many new features have been thought up for CSS3. Here are some interesting features that you may love to use.
CSS3: Border Properties
