This blog is mainly useful for logo designers. Depending upon the aspects of designer; here we have undergone certain rules which help to create legible & attractive brand logos.
Preliminary layout
We should start a layout or hand drawing before logo creation. Start 10 to 15 sketches or ideas and then branch out to create variations of the original ideas.
Size matters:
We should define a logo according to the size of letter heads, visiting card, posters, and banners. Whenever we scale the object its status should fit comfortably. So start by printing the logo on a letterhead or envelope and see if it is legible.
Color mode:
It is important to keep this in mind before our creation, because its color varies accounting to mode.
- For online business RGB mode is enough. Here online innocence without any printing department.
- While for printing such as poster & banners, we should follow CMYK mode.
Here is an example for mode difference using same color, figure 1 shows RGB mode & figure 2 shows CYMK mode
Clever use of color:
Color theory is quite complex, but designers who understand the basics can use colors to their advantage.
- Use colors not more than 2.
- Don’t use colors that are so bright such that they are hard on the eyes.
- The logo must also look good in black and white, grayscale and other color.
Font selection:
If your logo design includes text, either as part of the logo or in the tagline, you will need to spend time sorting through various font types. Sort dozens of them and testing them in your design before making a final decision.
Try serif fonts and sans-serif fonts as well as script, italics, bold, and custom fonts. Avoid the most commonly used fonts, such as Comic Sans, or else your design may come off as an amateur.
Strongly consider a custom font for your design. The more original the font, the more it will distinguish the brand. Examples of successful logos that have a custom font are Nike, Docomo, and Coca Cola.
Assembly line to develop a design:
- Design simple other than cluster.
- Typography matters.
- Use original fonts other than stylize.
- Keep tweaking.
- Be innovative and simple.
- Research.
We can make your design with a distinct style. Rather than copying another design or style, we must remember that simplicity is the key.
