To really understand Photoshop and the many uses you have to learn and understand how to use the tools. Here we have listed very basic method to handle marquee tool , lasso Tool , Polygonal lasso Tool, and magnetic lasso Tool. For the coming days we will cover all the topics.
Selection
Adobe Photoshop gives you several tools that help you select areas in an image.
Marquee tool (M) :
The marquee tools let you select rectangles.ellipses,rounded rectangles,and 1pixel rows and coloumns.
1. Rectangle marquee to make a rectangular selection.
2. Elleptical marquee to make an elliptical selection
3. Single Row or single coloumn Marquee to define the border as a 1-pixel-wide row or coloumn
4. Add a new selection
5. Add to a selection
6. Substract from a selection
7. An area intersected
Use can specify feathering and anti-aliasing, on or off for the rounded Rectangle tool or the elliptical marquee tool.
Following are the options for the Rectangle tool,the rounded Rectangle tool,or the elliptical Marquee tool:
Normal to determine marquee proportions by dragging.
Fixed Aspect Ratio to set a height-to- -width ratio. Enter Values(decimal values are valid in photoshop)for the aspect ratio.for example, to draw a marquee twice as wide as it is high, enter 2 for the width and 1 for the height.
Fixed size to specify set values for the marques’s height and width. Enter pixel values in whole numbers.keep in mind that the number of pixels needed to create a 1-inch selection depends on the reslution of the image.
Using the lasso Tool , Polygonal Lasso Tool and magnetic lasso Tool
1. The lasso, Polygonal lasso tools let you draw both straight-edged and freehand segments of aselection border.
2. With the magnetic lasso tool the border snaps to the edges of defined areas in the image.
To use the Lasso Tool ( L ) :
1. Select the lasso tool, and select options.
2. Drag to draw a freehand selection border.
3. To draw a straight-edged selection border, hold down th Delete key untill you’have erased the fastening points for the desired segment.
4. To close the selection border, release the mouse without holding down Alt.
To use the Polygonal Lasso Tool ( L) :
1. Select the Polygonal lasso tool, and select options.
2. Click in the image to set the starting point.
3. To draw a straight segment,position the pointer where you want the first straight segment to end,and click. Continue clicking to set endpoints for subsequent segments.
4. To draw a freehand segment,hold down Alt and Drag. When finished, release Alt or Option and the mouse button.
5. To erase rectangly drawn straight segments,press the delete key.
6. Position the polygonal lasso tool pointer over the starting point(a closed circle appears next to the pointer), and click.
7. If the pointer is not over the starting point, double-click the olygonal lasso tool pointer, or ctrl-click
To use the Magnetic Lasso Tool ( L):
1. Select the magnetic lasso tool, and select options.
2. Click in the image to set the first fastening point.
3. To draw a freehand segment, move the pointer along the edge you want to trace.
4. If the border doesn’t snap to the desired edge, click once to add a fastening point manually.

7. To activate the lasso tool, hold down Alt and drag with the mouse button pressed.
8. To activate the polygonal lasso tool, hold down Alt and Click.
